June is supposed to be the month of brides, but at Snyder Bible Church we are as busy as a wedding planner and not a bride in sight! It all begins with Vacation Bible School the first full week of June. (See scrolling post) Then the very next Sunday all dads and their daughters (any age) are invited to go bowling at the Brush Lanes from 2-4 PM. Then trade in your bowling shoes for shoppin’ shoes at the Clothing Free For All which is scheduled for the 23rd & 24th of June. Everyone is invited to come and pick up ANYTHING they want for FREE. Donations begin Friday evening the 22nd. Not to be left out by the dads and daughters thing, the ladies are starting their Twofer Tuesday Testimonies on June 19th, Tuesday of course! The time will be 7 PM and the location will be announced. If that’s not enough, gather your friends and family for Fellowship Fours. Sign up at the church welcome counter by the 27th of May. Four families will be randomly selected to share a meal and some time together during the month of June at your convenience. You can meet at the gym or your home or the city park. Play a game, watch a video or just meet and eat. Whew! Don’t look now but we didn’t even mention the guys ball team, music practice, or the regular Sunday services. See you there!

A Family Night Skating Party is being hosted by Rueben & Jewel Ewert and the social committee. So get your knee pads ready and get ready to roll. On Sunday evening, May 6 at 6 PM we will meet at the Brush Roller Rink. Bring some snack foods for all to share in the party room and plan on a good time.

Do you know what the Snyder Bible Church motto is? If not you don’t have to look too far; it is on the door of the Church along with the logo. It also finds its way into the bulletin often. It is “we preach Christ crucified, risen and coming again.” Our motto and even our churches name should describe what we are all about here. We are dedicated to the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ which are one in the same.

February 19^th-21^st we hosted Reality Ministries Drama “Last Chance” a program fully dedicated to communicating the Gospel and Reality to all. Then on March 11^th and 12^th we hosted Alpha Omega Institute here for Creation Seminars on the reliability of the Scriptures when it comes to Creation and Science. Both were a blessing and praise God for His work in both of them but even though they were so different from one another they were for the same purpose and that was for all who came to hear, understand and believe in the message of Salvation through Jesus Christ.

These two programs are behind us now but we still have before us the Word of God, which is unchanging and always working in fresh new ways. Let us not forget why we are here and what we are all about. Let us come to the well that is God’s Word, which contains for us the Water of Life and immerse ourselves into it; that we may never thirst in the spiritual wasteland that is the world.

Winter Fiesta!

Ladies, how about adding a little color to your winter blues? Get out your sombreros and serapes we’re having a fiesta! March 23 is a Ladies Night Out with tips & tricks for hosting a Mexican fiesta. We’ll have a demo on handmade tortillas, a pinata and even some zumba! (No cameras, please) If you need childcare, please let a deaconess know ahead of time. We’ll start at 6:30 and have a meal together. Sign up so we have a head count and get ready to cha-cha!

We’re not overly concerned with fancy new techno-widgets, we’re just hoping this new site will give the Snyder Bible Church family an easy way to stay up to date on what’s happening, and that the site will also be a treasure trove of resources.

Say “We wish you a merry Christmas!” three times and what do you think of? For most of us think of the next line of a favorite Christmas Carol, we hear it sung in the back of our minds as if it were coming from our own lips, the words “and a happy new year.” Our society has taken the wishes of the carolers to heart by trying to making this season the “most wonderful time of the year.” Only a week after Christmas each one greets one another with the words “happy new year!” and the week following that we forget our new year’s resolutions and go back to life as we know it. But parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors and spouses spend many hours and many more dollars working to make Christmas “merry” and the new years “happy.” Our society strives for these things and though this may be a good goal it is not all that this time of year can be. We can strive to not just make this a “happy new year” but a “holy new year.” Holy as used in the Scriptures simply means to be “set apart for a purpose.” Why not make 2012 a “holy new year” for ourselves and for our families? This coming year there are going to many memorable things happening from the Olympics, to the Presidential Campaign, to what many are calling the end of the world but wouldn’t it be far greater to make this the year within our own lives and within our families that the Lord really worked in and through us. And instead of 2012 being remembered for an athlete or a president or any conspiracy theory let us allow it to be remembered as the year in which the Lord really worked among us. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’” This verse was given to the people of Judah but carries to all who trust the Lord. Notice though there is nothing mentioned about happiness in the verse for the Lord is far more concerned about our holiness than our happiness. Let us make this New Year a “holy new year.”

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is approaching faster than a 747 plane! We need volunteers to work on the publicity during the month of May and workers during the first week of June. Contact Pastor Josh (842-2040) or Jennifer Hernandez if you are able to help. Dates are June 4-8 and the fun begins at 8:30 AM and goes each day until noon.

Fellowship Fours

Fellowship Fours is a summer program for families of all ages & sizes to get together for some light fellowship. You may sign up for one month or all three. By signing up for Fellowship Fours you will be connected with three other families to meet during that month for a pot luck meal together. The all purpose building at the church is free to use on a first come-first served basis or the city park or your own homes. The next month you will be connected with another three families. Check with a deacon or deaconess if you have questions.

We need you to sign up at the church for the food you will bring so that we have a correct head count. Don’t miss out on the fun and the fellowship in the warmth and comfort of our hostess’ homes.

Holidays

I recently saw a humorous drawing of a turkey pointing a wing at Santa Clause and telling him sternly “Wait your turn! This is my month!” I laughed and remembered how true this is, not that actual turkeys are getting on to Santa Clause, I would guess if turkeys could speak they would be fine with skipping Thanksgiving, but I remembered how easy it is to forget giving thanks.

Thanksgiving is truly one of my favorite holidays; it is simple and honorable to the core. A time to reflect and celebrate not a single event but life in general a time to stop and remember what is important. Sadly it is all too easy though to move from Halloween to Christmas without stopping to give thanks; and sadly it is even easier to go through day to day life without giving thanks. In times of trouble we often are drawn to the Lord, and that is good, that is a part of the reason why we face trials but after the trial is over we often times forget to return to the Lord and say “thank you.” In our busy day to day lives it is easy to go to bed each night not once stopping, for just a moment, to see the blessings around us and be thankful.

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for family, food and football but I give greater thanks to the Lord for the reminder each year to live a life of thanksgiving, even if my team loses the football game. The turkey will be devoured, the game will come to an end and many of our relatives will go home but may a life of thanksgiving always be a part of us. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
